Curriculum design is a fancy way of describing "planning for learning". We learn an enormous amount in life by accident rather than design. However if you want to learn something formally and over a set period of time, you need a learning plan. A learning plan should be very clear about what it is aiming for, what techniques it will adopt to support learning, and how it will measure whether it has been successful or not. Of course it can do none of these without considering who the learners might be, where they are starting from, and how to adapt to their potential strengths and weaknesses. I've been involved in formal and informal learning for a long time, in schools, colleges, adult education, higher education and in the community. If you're thinking of designing a learning package but would like some objective support I'm interested.
